Profile
Lawrence Lee McKeever (1885-1962), known to many as “Mac,” was a significant tattoo artist who worked extensively on the West Coast. He is believed to have begun his tenure at The Pike in Long Beach during the 1920s, actively shaping the local tattoo culture. McKeever notably apprenticed “Tahiti” Felix Lynch in the 1930s and was a proponent for lowering the tattooing age requirement from 21 to 18, advocating for service members who frequented the area. His shop was located at 214 W. Ocean Blvd, where his daughter also ran a photo studio, marking his deep roots in the Long Beach community.
