Lee Roy Minugh (1911-1994) was a tattooist, Baptist Preacher, and Mason who rose to prominence in the tattoo business during the 1950s on The Pike in Long Beach, California. He learned the art through the circus tradition and later established “Lee Roy’s Tattoo Parlor” at 26 Chestnut Place, where Owen Jensen also worked. Minugh made history as one of the first tattooists to showcase his craft on television, famously tattooing Steve Allen, the inaugural host of The Tonight Show on NBC, in the late 1950s.
