Growing up immersed in tattoo culture, he spent his early years in legendary shops like Ace Tattoo in San Diego. In 1992, Doug embarked on a formal apprenticeship under the renowned Mike “Rollo” Malone at China Sea Tattoo in Honolulu, the historic shop once owned by Sailor Jerry. There, he honed his foundation in traditional tattooing, embracing values of precision, humility, and craftsmanship. His career has taken him across the world, from Hawaii to Minneapolis, Japan, and back to San Francisco, working alongside some of the most respected names in the industry. Doug’s black-and-grey and traditional work, which includes classic American iconography and bold color, embody a deep connection to tattoo heritage while reflecting his own evolution as an artist.
