Profile
Brayton Furlong is the accomplished owner and artist behind Heavy Water Tattoo, an appointment-only studio founded in 2014 in Pleasure Point, Santa Cruz, California. With a rich background in fine art, Brayton spent 16 years as a glass sculptor, exhibiting his work alongside masters like Dale Chihuly and Lino Tagliapietra. This extensive experience in multiple mediums translates into a profound artistic integrity in his tattoo work.
Heavy Water Tattoo has earned a reputation as one of the Bay Area’s prominent shops, recognized by The Good Times as “best tattoo studio” multiple times. Brayton himself was voted “best artist” in 2019. While he is best known for his realistic black and gray tattooing, Brayton is a versatile artist who excels in a wide array of styles, including dot work, sacred geometry, blackwork, color realism, surrealism, and floral designs. He is dedicated to custom tattooing, often with a waitlist, and frequently travels for international tattoo conventions and guest spots in locations such as France, Italy, Greece, Costa Rica, and across North America. His philosophy centers on pouring everything he has into each tattoo, maintaining the highest level of integrity and embracing the unique challenges of diverse styles.
