Profile
Dan Allaston is a legendary figure in Canadian tattooing and the esteemed founder of New Moon Tattoo, established in Ottawa in 1982. A true pioneer in contemporary tattooing, Dan organized Canada’s first International Tattoo Conventions in Montreal in 1993 and 1994, working alongside fellow Canadian tattoo legend Keith Stewart. His adventurous spirit also led him to achieve a world record for tattooing at Mount Everest base camp in 2018. While he currently tattoos a few days a week, primarily for his longtime clientele, his foundational work has instilled in New Moon Tattoo a reverence for enduring, quality craftsmanship, often associated with a classic old-school style. Dan is also a key organizer of the NIX Toronto Tattoo Show, Canada’s longest-running tattoo convention, continuing to shape the industry he helped define. His extensive travels and collaborations with artists worldwide have cemented his reputation as a foundational force in the global tattoo community.
