Profile
Frank Thomas Julian (1880-1956) was an early electric tattooer from Dallas, Texas, who established his presence on The Pike in Long Beach during the 1920s. An Italian immigrant, Julian was also a tattooed attraction for the Ringling circus, where he met his wife, Mary Alice Wade, known as “Alice from Dallas.” Together, they worked on The Pike, with Alice performing as a sideshow fat lady. Julian was known for his strong Republican convictions, often displaying images of U.S. presidents tattooed on his body, with Republican chief executives occupying favored locations. He also partnered with Duffy at 26 Chestnut Place, operating as Julian and Duffy’s Tattooing Studio.
