Gregory Wald, known by his artistic moniker Vold, is an experienced tattoo artist at Black Crow Studio in Salt Lake City, Utah, with 11 years in the industry. Unlike many artists, Gregory discovered his passion for tattooing later in life, drawn by the independent lifestyle of artist friends. He has explored various styles throughout his career, ultimately gravitating towards Japanese art forms. His current signature style is a blend of blackout, blackwork, Neojapanese, and dark ornamental, which he finds particularly effective for cover-ups and creating a cohesive, flowing aesthetic on the body. Gregory draws inspiration from artists like Gogue, Gakkin, Fibs, and Daaamnj, incorporating elements such as suminagashi, natural wood and marble grains, Japanese calligraphy, and sharp patterns from modern graphic metal lettering. While often working on larger pieces, he also enjoys creating smaller ornaments, Neojapanese flash, and florals.
