Matt Sandoz

Matt Sandoz is a custom tattoo artist at STUDIO DARUMA in Largo, FL. Bringing a rich artistic background to his craft, Matt holds degrees in medical illustration and sequential art from the University of Georgia and Savannah College of Art and Design. He transitioned into tattooing in his early 30s after completing a comprehensive three-year apprenticeship in Georgia, subsequently relocating to Florida in 2017. Matt has cultivated a profound passion for Japanese subject matter, blending traditional, neotraditional, and illustrative styles into his distinctive work. He is adept with both machine and traditional Tebori techniques, with a particular enthusiasm for expanding his Tebori projects in both black and gray and color. Matt specializes in creating larger-scale, narrative-driven pieces, drawing extensively from the rich mythology and characters of traditional Japanese art to convey deeper meaning. He approaches each project collaboratively, delving into clients’ personal stories and interests to ensure every tattoo is not only visually striking but also deeply resonant and unique to the individual.
