Ray Bartley

Ray Bartley is the visionary founder of Black Diamond Tattoo in Stony Plain. His artistic path was ignited in childhood by a fascination with art and symbolic imagery, further deepened by a profound appreciation for the “older masters of European art.” His extensive travels across Europe, including immersing himself in the history of Rome, exploring the Austrian Alps near the discovery site of Ötzi the Iceman, and experiencing the ancient art of Chauvet Cave in France, profoundly influenced his perspective on art and the significance of human markings. Upon returning to Canada, Ray pursued a traditional apprenticeship, refining his skills in a busy shop environment. He continued to elevate his craft during many years at a prestigious studio in Edmonton. Drawing on his rich background and diverse experiences, Ray eventually returned to Stony Plain to realize his vision for Black Diamond Tattoo. At Black Diamond Tattoo, Ray specializes in creating custom tattoos and meaningful designs that resonate with each client’s personal narrative. He views tattooing as a powerful right of passage, bringing individual stories to life with precision and care in a peaceful, welcoming, and professional environment. His work is guided by integrity and a commitment to artistry, aiming to provide a space for safe creative expression, solace, and spirituality.
